Green Schools

Green SchoolsSunday’s Well BNS are currently embarking on a programme to encourage the children to respect and protect the environment. This will include recycling etc.

A “Litter Warden” scheme is also in operation. We are hoping to achieve green school status this coming year and will be sending off our application in December. As part of this, we have setup a GREEN Committee that comprises of pupils from every class: Teachers, non-teaching staff, caretaker and parents.

The pupils undertook an environmental review, which identified areas within the school and the school grounds, which needed to be looked at more closely. We have participated in the Nation Spring Clean where we cleaned up many of the areas identified in our Environmental Review. We have also set up a bin system in each classroom for recyclable materials and non-recyclables.

We have found the Green Schools to be a great initiative as the boys now take a responsibility for their school and are proud of their school. The boys’ attitudes to litter and waste have greatly improved; hopefully this will continue outside of school and be seen in the community.
